"The Bayou City. There are parts of Houston where the bayous are walled off by thick grass, scrubs, tree, shopping carts and what nots. At times, you didn’t even know there was a bayou at the end of this trail decorated with smushed blackberries (the fruit not the talking device). And when you got to the clearing and saw this grand (not always) expanse flowing full and inviting end to end, it was your discovery. It was your new found land."

I go to college in Oklahoma City and when I tell people I am from Texas their minds automatically wander to Dallas. I just grin and say, "That's not the Texas I know." The Texas I know is Houston; a city that is as international as LA or Chicago, a city that rivals NYC for the amount of seating in our theatre district, a city where millions of people visit our acclaimed museums every year, a city that has more parkland than that of any city comparable to its size, and a city where you can find that good old southern hospitality but not the southern ignorance.

Sure there are always exceptions to the above mentioned thoughts, but all in all Houston is a pretty special place.
