Because it's a heart and soul feeling way down in your gut. My husband and I transferred away a year and a half ago to the West Coast and people here still give us weird looks when we say we're from Houston. And then we go into a dreamy state reminiscing about all the things that make our city great - the people, the heat, the hurricanes, the humidity, the cockroaches, the traffic...
Houston, we'll get back to ya soon.

"The Bayou City. There are parts of Houston where the bayous are walled off by thick grass, scrubs, tree, shopping carts and what nots. At times, you didn’t even know there was a bayou at the end of this trail decorated with smushed blackberries (the fruit not the talking device). And when you got to the clearing and saw this grand (not always) expanse flowing full and inviting end to end, it was your discovery. It was your new found land."

"I love coming back to my downtown hi-rise at the end of my day. Once I see this view on the horizon I know I am home."

"The METRORail is an iconic image of downtown Houston. Any expansion of this system will bring Houston's public transportation up to the standards of many major American cities."

"Every city has its homeless. And mostly we'd prefer to see them in the rearview or pretend they aren't there."

"I know a few years ago we had earned the dubious distinction of fattest city in America. We;;, maybe so, but that doesn't keep us from getting on our bikes!"

"Houstonians are hardcore. A true Houstonian isn't afraid of anything - be it a mutant flying cockroach or a crackhead zombie invasion."
